ASSOCIAZIONE “MONDO 2000”

“Mondo 2000” is a Voluntary Work Association founded in the year 2000. It is a non-profit organisation aimed at setting up multi-cultural and social projects where both College and non-College volunteers can take part in order to promote international understanding, tolerance and peace.

Through this Association College students and secondary school students from Monfalcone and Trieste (many of them belonging to the Slovene minority), meet and work together to promote values such as solidarity and understanding.

Mondo 2000 promotes the values and importance of volunteer work. We organise seminars in secondary schools, invite young people to visit the College, and encourage them to become active members of our social services.

We try to merge social service and other activities as much as possible, be they sport, drama, video, choir, dance, arts etc. in order to make social service as relevant, interesting and appealing as possible. We co-operate with several public institutions and with other Voluntary Work Associations.

These are some of Mondo 2000's current projects:
- organizing activities for disabled people in co-operation with the Trieste City Council;
- organizing activities, entertainment and concerts in various rest homes;
- organizing a show involving immigrant kids;
- participating in Youth Groups organized by the Monfalcone City Council;
- writing a guide for immigrants in Trieste;
- “Space and Future”, which aims to involve young people in Monfalcone in plans for the future of their town.
All these projects aim to involve College Students and Secondary School students from the surrounding area.
Young Builders of Peace is a movement initiated by College students which has received strong support from local students, as well as from associations and public institutions in the area. Its aim is to raise awareness about conflicts in the world and to illustrate the everyday actions we can all make to encourage peace. Young Builders of Peace organized a Peace March in October which was attended by approximately 450 students from 8 different schools and intends to organize other peace groups, conferences and workshops in the future. Local associations participate in the movement by providing students with support in the organization of presentations and workshops.Marcia pace
