Amnesty International Youth Group
|
| After a meeting on January 25th with Giulio Cok from Trieste, who is on the National Committee of Amnesty (Italy), and after completing the paperwork, the Amnesty group (UWCAd) are now officially affiliated to Amnesty (Italy). Although there has been a group at the college for many years, this is the first time that it has been recognised. We are going to co-operate with the other regional groups especially during the Week of Student Action (March 27th – April 2nd) where the focus will be the Amnesty campaign “Domestic Gun Violence Against Women”. Amnesty (Italy) have already given some prominence to the UWCAd group in recognition of our participation in the Greetings Cards Campaign which has been mentioned in the Amnesty newsletter. Students at the college joined together to send their good wishes for peace to political prisoners throughout the world. Greetings were written in a number of languages including Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, Hindi, Urdu, Turkish and Russian.

The United World College of the Adriatic joins the “Regional System of Research Institutions”
| Last week, on the occasion of the 5th annual conference of the “Research Institutins of Friuli Venezia Giulia”, which was held at the Conference Centre of the Area Science Park, the United World College of the Adriatic of Duino formally joined the “Coordination of Public Research Institution”. Thus this international institution which has been working in Duino since 1982, has become the 40th member of the regional system. On the occasion of the Conference of 8th February, the College also signed the “European Charter for Researchers” and the “Code of Conduct for hiring Researchers” drawn up by the European Commission last year. This formal act is evidence of the continuity in the College’s academic activity in scientific subjects, which offer very high standards of study, thanks to the well equipped “Rita Levi Montalcini” Laboratories, opened in 1997. In this context, the College Headmaster Marc Abrioux is continuing to stimulate the study of sciences through the offer of five scholarships for Physics scholars. They are offered to students of Central and Eastern Europe and Developing Counties, whose age is between 16-17. These 5 scholarships are offered in the framework of the “Junior Talents” initiative.
