Seeking sponsorship for the II Winter Break Street Performance, Spain and Portugal 06

Some students of the United World Collage of the Adriatic will celebrate during Christmas the Second Edition of the Street Performance. This is a new initiative created last year by Elliot (Hong-Kong) and Lelde (Latvia), who, during the beginning of last year’s winter break conveyed the ideals of the United World Colleges in different cities in Eastern Europe: Vienna, Bratislava, Prague and Budapest.

The project succeeded in carrying our message of inter-culturalism and mutual understanding through all these cities in different events, which were roughly divided into two types. There were choir concerts in a broad diversity of locations and non-choir based activities such as workshops, debates and conferences at different high-schools, where our students promoted United World Colleges to the local teenagers. There were very important occasions within this tour, including the concert that last year’s choir delivered in the UN headquarters in Vienna which you can see in the picture. The outcomes were extremely positive and important.

This generation of students consider the continuity of this initiative is absolutely crucial if we are willing to raise the level of awareness of UWCs. Therefore we are working on a project to go to Spain and Portugal. We would like to visit Barcelona, Madrid, Oviedo, Santiago and Lisbon from the 8th to the 20th of December. We will be undertaking the same sort of activities: choir concerts in open spaces as well as in concert halls, workshops in schools and conferences to promote the United World College spirit.

Our objectives, which we are sure we will fulfil with our enthusiasm and the help of the Spanish Alumni Association and the Portuguese Committee of UWC, are to raise the awareness of United World College movement, to stimulate the interest of possible donators, and to encourage Spanish and Portuguese teenagers to participate in their national selections.

The one problem is that we cannot possibly obtain by ourselves all the money that we need in such a short period of time. There are students at this college for whom 150€/person plus food money during the trip is completely unaffordable. The cost of the whole Street Performance Spain and Portugal 06 for all students going would vary from €6000 to €6500. We will be holding different fund-raising events, but we also need external help. If you help this happen, you will be helping the UWC movement, and therefore you will be helping the world become a place where people from different backgrounds, religions, cultures, countries, can keep their diversity within a strong united worldwide brotherhood.

If you help us, we can make dreams come true.
