The College celebrates its founder's 80th birthday

The Hon. Corrado Belci turned 80 on 19th November and the United World College of the Adriatic celebrated this goal with him.
A toast was organised in Duino with all those who had the opportunity of working with him from 1982 to 1997. There followed a lunch with Antonin Besse, Giorgio Pontoni, Dario Barnaba, the president Michele Zanetti and the Headmaster Marc Abrioux.
Corrado Belci, together with Gianfranco Facco Bonetti, Antonin Besse and the late Gaspare Pacia, with the precious aid of many others among whom Giorgio Pontoni, is one of the founders of the Adriatic College which started its activity in 1982 after ten years of preliminary diplomatic, political and institutional work.

A short biography:
Corrado Belci, born 19th November, 1926 in Dignano d'Istria (near Pola) , married to Laura Gasparo (1950) is the father of six children and has eight grandchildren.
In 1946 he began his career as a journalist for "L'Arena di Pola", the Istrian city daily newspaper. Having left Pola after the city passed under Yugoslavia on 10th February, 1947 as a consequence of the Treaty of Paris, he worked in the editorial staff of "Le Ultimissime" and "Le Ultime Notizie", in Trieste; later he became editor in chief of the "Gazzettino". From 1976 to 1980, he was political director of "Il Popolo" and from 1980 to 1982 of "La Discussione".
Parallel to his activity as a journalist, he dedicated himself to politics: provincial secretary of the Trieste Christian Democrat Party from 1957 to 1962, four times Member of Parliament from 1963 to 1979, member of the National Council and of the Central Administration of the Christian Democrat Party, and Under-secretary for Foreign Trade from 1970 to 1972.
At the end of his parliamentary activity he founded the United World College of the Adriatic in 1982 of which he was also President until 1997.
In 1993, he founded the quarterly review "Triste&Oltre" together with prof. Giacomo Borruso, Rector of the University of Trieste.

On Saturday, 18th of November, at the "Casa della Pietra" in Aurisina, the second Conference-Concert was organized in collaboration with the Comune di Duino-Aurisina and our College.
