Native English Speakers take control of the school!

We have national weeks throughout the academic year that help the college community gain an
insight into the traditions, history and culture of a continent, country or a group who share a
past.
The events for the Native English Speakers week started with an invitation to the National
week after assembly on Monday, the 29th of January. The ambiance at meal-time in mensa changed with
students, teachers and staff enjoying the foot tapping and head-bobbing music which took many more
experienced members of our community down memory lane.
The history of English poetry stretches from the middle of the 7th century to the present
day. On Tuesday, the Native English Speakers organized a Poetry reading session in the lecture room
where the audience experienced a play of words - the music of the language, intricate rhyme schemes
and elegant phrases – a classy and distinguished affair.
The taster session on Wednesday gave the organizers an opportunity to work on their culinary
skills and tease the palate of the recipients with typical food served in homes of native english
speakers. Food and merry making was followed by preparation for the ‘Stereotypical personality’ day
on Thursday where the entire community enjoyed the unexpected lengths to which some of our students
went to demonstrate their understanding and knowledge of the people. For Asian week, we had ‘
discipline day’, during the Italian National week – the complete opposite. Students sacrificed
their persona to get completely involved in becoming one of ‘them’.
On Friday, we have the much awaited show which is normally held in one of the residences –
the Foresteria dayroom or common-room. One can only imagine what it might be like with Native
English Speakers from all over the world, bringing their varied experiences of ‘English’ to stage.
On Saturday night, we celebrate the end of the week with a typical high school Prom in
another residence – Palazzine.
