Italian Minister of the Environment

On Thursday the 8th of February 2007, we had a surprise visitor – the Honorable Italian Minister of Environmental Affairs, Sig. Alfonso Percoraro Scanio (also the President of the Italian Green Party). He arrived in Duino at approximately 17:00 hrs where he was greeted by the local representatives of the WWF of the region and members of the Duinese community.

Following a session with the staff, he proceeded to the Foresteria residence dayroom where he was met by eager students who had gathered to meet him. He addressed the audience, spoke of his interest in the UWC movement and its efforts in increasing awareness in environmental preservation. Despite being delayed, he entertained questions and suggestions from the students.

He mentioned a meeting he attended in Paris last week where international delegates discussed their collective fears of Global warming.

He ended by re-stating that we have the possibility to change the situation – the future is in our hands.
