“Where, oh, where, have all our students gone?”
|
184 students from over 80 countries studying at Adriatic College are going to be all over
Europe for one week – from the 24th of February 2007 till the 3rd of March.
During this years’ Project Week, which is a student-initiated event, the school has groups
ranging in size from 3 to 15, travelling within Italy and to the UK, The Netherlands, Greece,
Austria, Germany, Hungary, Switzerland, Turkey, Croatia, Romania and Russia! Most groups are
accompanied by one or two teachers.
The groups are working on projects that vary from science studies, musical performances,
helping in orphanages and schools to create new associations with international student
organisations, meeting H.R.H the Princess Royal at the UK opening ceremony of the International
Polar year, attending conferences at the United Nations offices in Geneva, living in monasteries,
studying religious tolerance and environmental issues while volunteering for national parks in
Italy.
While the Adriatic students are away, 30 of their peers from the UWC College in Mostar
(Bosnia Herzegovina) will be in Duino working on various projects.
The purpose of Project Week is to give students a chance to work real-time on creating a
project from scratch, getting to know peers who they may not necessarily know very well, raising
funds to be able to go on the projects, creating associations and collaborations with
organisations, learning time and people management skills and of course, getting some time off from
their incredibly busy academic schedules in school - a taste of what its like to be part of a team
or to lead a team, to plan, and have an opportunity to put their UWC ideals into practice during
the week.
