IPC Alpine Skiing Disabled World Cup.
|
Saturday 10th March 2007. The Adriatic College students were invited by the ‘Sci Club Due
U.S. ACLI’ to participate in the official welcome of disabled athletes from all over the world
engaged in an international competition scheduled from the 12th to the 14th of March in the Alps
(Zoncolan).
The opening ceremony for the Final World Cup ‘IPC Alpine Skiing Disabled’ took place in the
Piazza Unità d'Italia, in Trieste. Our students were inspired by the competitors who turned out to
be extremely positive, strongly driven, determined and successful athletes but at the same time
humble in their attitude.
The ceremony commenced at 17:00 hrs. Our students were proud to carry the flags of their
countries and to walk up to the stage with the teams from their respective countries. The press
conference was opened by Roberto Antonaz (Assessore all’Istruzione Cultura Sport e Pace). The
participants were greeted and wished the very best by members of the local City Council, the Ski
Club and members of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region.
After the ceremony which ended at 18:00 hrs, the teams were accompanied by the organizers and
our students to a ship, the 'Emerald Princess', that took them to the shipyard in Monfalcone,
across the gulf, for a dinner by the shore. After dinner the journey to Zoncolan.
