Students Embark on Project Week

UWCad students were scattered around Europe from February 24th until March 4th. Project week is a way to spread UWC ideals through a student-organized initiative which also gives the opportunity to learn a great deal about organization, discovering the culture of new places.

Some travelled to Moscow, London, Geneva, Amsterdam, Berlin, Romania, Slovenia, Croatia, and cities around Italy. One group stayed in Duino and welcomed students from the new UWC in Mostar furthering inter-UWC relations.

Project themes ranged from learning more about drug legislation in the Netherlands, to teaching youth about global warming; from the Music Scholars giving concerts, to learning about the UN—at UN headquarters.

As well as spreading the “UWC word,” students learnt much to enrich the college. Many brought back ideas for projects or campaigns.

Students had the opportunity to work closely with other groups and to explore new subject areas. They learnt from each other and developed new friendships.
As a follow-up to the week, each group is recording their adventures. They will be compiled and kept on record for future project weeks. Along with a diary of the trip and an outline of the groups’ objectives, the reports will include tips on how to make project weeks successful.

Many hours went into the preparation. Had it not been for the hard work of students, teachers, and staff, the week would not have been the success it was.
Students will carry memories of this week for their entire lives. From laughing with friends while travelling, to soaking up the culture of their destinations, and being inspired by encounters with new people, the project week further enriches the UWC experience!
