ACTIVITIES
These are an integral part of College life.
The activities programme seeks to provide: challenge, both physical
and mental; the opportunity to learn specific skills; an outlet for creative expression; the
motivation for physical fitness; an occasion for practising leadership; and the chance to widen
aesthetic experience.
The formal activities programme includes both physical and aesthetic activities. These in
turn are divided into core and additional activities. Core activities are led by members of staff
or by instructors recruited locally. The other activities are generally led by students.
All students are required to join two core activities, one physical
and one aesthetic. Each activity takes place on one afternoon or evening each week. It is possible
to join additional activities on a voluntary and informal basis. It is also possible for students
to propose and lead additional activities.
The activities programme for 2007-2008 includes the
following:
Core Physical Activities:
Land (Climbing, Cross-country Skiing, Downhill Skiing, Hiking and
Orienteering);
Marine (Kayaking, Sailing);
Sports (Archery, Basketball, Karate, Road Hockey, Rugby, Softball, Soccer, Swimming and
